1c4852651c gdb: move rust_language into rust-lang.h
Move the rust_language class declaration into the rust-lang.h header
file. This allows for the function implementations called directly in
rust-lang.c and rust-exp.y without the need for trampoline functions.

There should be no user visible changes after this commit.

c5c412054e Change parameters to language_defn::post_parser
In the expression rewrite, Ada type resolution will be done at parse
time rather than in a post-parse pass. At this point,
language_defn::post_parser will be removed. However, for this to
work, the information available to post_parser must be made available
during the actual parse.

This patch refactors this code slightly to make this possible. In
particular, "void_context_p" is passed to the parser_state
constructor, and the parser state is then passed to the post_parser
method.

dda83cd783 gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: fix leading space vs tabs issues
Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example,
there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward
when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong
indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also
wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same
patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch.

So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully).

One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology
more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last
change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when
git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit"
anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are
interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you
already need a somewhat efficient way to do this.

Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this
trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past
the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke.
It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it).
Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't
really make archeology more difficult.

The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with
existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those
are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git
rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will
re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing
the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy).

f2d8e4c597 gdb: rename 'enum range_type' to 'enum range_flag'
To avoid confusion with other parts of GDB relating to types and
ranges, rename this enum to make it clearer that it is a set of
individual flags rather than an enumeration of different types of
range.

There should be no user visible changes after this commit.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	* expprint.c (print_subexp_standard): Change enum range_type to
	range_flag and rename variables to match.

2f1b18db86 gdb: Convert enum range_type to a bit field enum
The expression range_type enum represents the following ideas:

  - Lower bound is set to default,
  - Upper bound is set to default,
  - Upper bound is exclusive.

There are currently 6 entries in the enum to represent the combination
of all those ideas.

In a future commit I'd like to add stride information to the range,
this could in theory appear with any of the existing enum entries, so
this would take us to 12 enum entries.

This feels like its getting a little out of hand, so in this commit I
switch the range_type enum over to being a flags style enum. There's
one entry to represent no flags being set, then 3 flags to represent
the 3 ideas above. Adding stride information will require adding only
one more enum flag.

I've then gone through and updated the code to handle this change.

There should be no user visible changes after this commit.

db92ac4568 Use arrays rather than pointers for global string constants
My understanding is that it's mildly better to use a static const
array, as opposed to a "const char *", for a global string constant,
when possible. This makes sense to me because the pointer requires a
load from an address, whereas the array is just the address.

So, I searched for these in gdb and gdbserver. This patch fixes the
ones I found.

0874fd075b gdb: Represent all languages as sub-classes of language_defn
This commit converts all languages to sub-classes of a language_defn
base class.

The motivation for this change is to make it easier to add new methods
onto languages without having to update all of the individual language
structures. In the future it might be possible to move more things,
like expression parsing, into the language class(es) for better
encapsulation, however I have no plans to tackle this in the short
term.

This commit sets up a strategy for transitioning from the current
language system, where each language is an instance of the
language_defn structure, to the class hierarchy system.

The plan is to rename the existing language_defn into language_data,
and make this a base class for the new language_defn class, something
like this:

  struct language_data
  {
    ... old language_defn fields here ...
  };

  struct language_defn : public language_data
  {
    language_defn (const language_data d)
      : language_data (d)
    { .... }
  };

Then each existing language, for example ada_language_defn can be
converted into an instance of language_data, and passed into the
constructor of a new language class, something like this:

  language_data ada_language_data =
  {
    ... old ada_language_defn values here ...
  };

  struct ada_language : public language_defn
  {
    ada_language (ada_language_data)
    { .... }
  };

What this means is that immediately after the conversion nothing much
changes. Every language is now its own class, but all the old
language fields still exist and can be accessed in the same way.

In later commits I will convert function pointers from the old
language_defn structure into real class methods on language_defn, with
overrides on sub-classes where needed.

At this point I imagine that those fields of the old language_defn
structure that contained only data will probably remain as data fields
within the new language_data base structure, it is only the methods
that I plan to change initially.

I tweaked how we manage the list of languages a bit, each language is
now registered as it is created, and this resulted in a small number
of changes in language.c.

Most of the changes in the *-lang.c files are identical.

There should be no user visible changes after this commit.

6c2659886f gdb: add back declarations for _initialize functions
I'd like to enable the -Wmissing-declarations warning. However, it
warns for every _initialize function, for example:

      CXX    dcache.o
    /home/smarchi/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/dcache.c: In function ‘void _initialize_dcache()’:
    /home/smarchi/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/dcache.c:688:1: error: no previous declaration for ‘void _initialize_dcache()’ [-Werror=missing-declarations]
     _initialize_dcache (void)
     ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The only practical way forward I found is to add back the declarations,
which were removed by this commit:

    commit 481695ed5f6e0a8a9c9c50bfac1cdd2b3151e6c9
    Author: John Baldwin <jhb@FreeBSD.org>
    Date:   Sat Sep 9 11:02:37 2017 -0700

        Remove unnecessary function prototypes.

I don't think it's a big problem to have the declarations for these
functions, but if anybody has a better solution for this, I'll be happy
to use it.

b858499daf Remove gdbarch parameter of lookup_typename
I noticed that the gdbarch parameter of lookup_typename was unused, so I
removed it (as well as from lookup_signed_typename and
lookup_unsigned_typename) and updated all callers.

Tested by rebuilding.

0dc327459b gdb: Remove vec.{c,h} and update code to not include vec.h
Removes vec.c and vec.h from the source tree, and remove all the
remaining includes of vec.h. There should be no user visible changes
after this commit.

I did have a few issues rebuilding GDB after applying this patch due
to cached dependencies, I found that running this command in the build
directory resolved my build issues without requiring a 'make clean':

    rm -fr gdb/gdbserver/gdbsupport/.deps/

0cf9feb996 Introduce obstack_strndup
This introduces obstack_strndup and changes gdb to use it.

Note that obstack_strndup works like savestring, and not exactly like
xstrndup. The difference is that obstack_strndup uses the passed-in
length, while xstrndup uses strnlen to choose the length.

0d12e84cfc Don't include gdbarch.h from defs.h
I touched symtab.h and was surprised to see how many files were
rebuilt. I looked into it a bit, and found that defs.h includes
gdbarch.h, which in turn includes many things.

gdbarch.h is only needed by a minority ofthe files in gdb, so this
patch removes the include from defs.h and updates the fallout.

I did "wc -l" on the files in build/gdb/.deps; this patch reduces the
line count from 139935 to 137030; so there are definitely future
build-time savings here.

Note that while I configured with --enable-targets=all, it's possible
that some *-nat.c file needs an update. I could not test all of
these. The buildbot caught a few problems along these lines.

268a13a5a3 Rename common to gdbsupport
This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the
top level.

This patch just renames the "common" directory. The idea is to do
this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then
move the directory to the top. This approach makes the patches a bit
more tractable.

I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory. However, as this
patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too
much difficulty.

Tested by the buildbot.

8dc433a0fb Fix Rust lexer buglet
PR rust/24414 points out that the Rust lexer uses strtoul when lexing
an integer, and that this can give the wrong results in some
situations.

This patch changes it to use strtoulst, like most of the rest of gdb.
It also adds a self test.

Tested on x86-64 Fedora 29 using an i686 build.

230d2906b9 Rename gdb exception types
This renames the gdb exception types. The old types were only needed
due to the macros in common-exception.h that are now gone.

The intermediate layer of gdb_exception_RETURN_MASK_ALL did not seem
needed, so this patch removes it entirely.

3d6e9d2336 Make exceptions use std::string and be self-managing
This changes the exception's "message" member to be a shared_ptr
wrapping a std::string. This allows removing the stack of exception
messages, because now exceptions will self-destruct when needed. This
also adds a noexcept copy constructor and operator= to gdb_exception,
plus a "what" method.

28aaf3fdf9 Remove paren_depth global
This removes the "paren_depth" global. In most cases, it is made into
a static global in a given parser. I consider this a slight
improvement, because it makes it clear that the variable isn't used
for communication between different modules of gdb. The one exception
is the Rust parser, which already incorporates all local state into a
transient object; in this case the parser depth is now a member.

42a4f53d2b Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.

Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

56ba65a047 Make the Rust parser pure
This makes the Rust parser a pure parser and removes all the
(non-constant) globals from rust-exp.y. This seemed like a nice
simplification to me and I think it should probably be applied to all
the parsers. Perhaps it would be good to go even one step farther and
have all parsers derive from parser_state.

Tested on x86-64 Fedora 26.

gdb/ChangeLog
2018-07-20  Tom Tromey  <tom@tromey.com>

	* rust-exp.y: Now a pure parser. Update all rules.

69d340c684 Remove la_error
While working on the parser code, I noticed that yyerror is exported
from each parser. It is used by this code in parse.c:

   TRY
     {
       if (lang->la_parser (&ps))
         lang->la_error (NULL);
     }

However, it seems to me that la_error will never be called here,
because in every case, la_parser throws an exception on error -- each
implementation of yyerror just calls error.

So, this patch removes la_error and makes all the yyerror functions
static. This is handy primarily because it makes it simpler to make
the expression parsers pure.

Tested by the buildbot.

6873858b7e Add inclusive range support for Rust
This is version 2 of the patch to add inclusive range support for
Rust. I believe it addresses all review comments.

Rust recently stabilized the inclusive range feature:

    https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/28237

An inclusive range is an expression like "..= EXPR" or "EXPR ..=
EXPR". It is like an ordinary range, except the upper bound is
inclusive, not exclusive.

This patch adds support for this feature to gdb.

Regression tested on x86-64 Fedora 27.

2018-04-27  Tom Tromey  <tom@tromey.com>

	PR rust/22545:
	* rust-lang.c (rust_inclusive_range_type_p): New function.

926300415b Support bare-identifier field initializers in Rust
In Rust one can initialize a struct member from an identically-named
local variable by simply mentioning the member name in the
initializer, like:

    let x = 0;
    let y = Struct { x };

This initializes "Struct::x" from "x".

This patch adds this form of initializer to the Rust expression parser
and adds a test.

Tested on x86-64 Fedora 26 using rustc 1.23.

d8344f3d05 Formatting fixes in rust-exp.y
I noticed a few formatting buglets in rust-exp.y: A couple of lines

I'm checking this in as obvious. Tested by rebuilding.

aee1fcdf97 gdb: New API for tracking innermost block
This commit is preparation for a later change, at this point there
should be no user visible change.

We currently maintain a global innermost_block which tracks the most
inner block encountered when parsing an expression.

This commit wraps the innermost_block into a new class, and switches all
direct accesses to the variable to use the class API.

798a7429f9 Remove some unused variables
This patch removes some unused variables, found with -Wunused. I have
not removed everything reported by -Wunused, because some expressions
such as

  struct type *arg_type = check_typedef (value_type);

in bfin-tdep.c could have an unexpected but important side-effect. I
removed others that I considered more low-risk, such as:

  struct gdbarch *gdbarch = get_objfile_arch (objfile);

edd079d9f6 Target FP: Use target format throughout expression parsing
When parsing floating-point literals, the language parsers currently
use parse_float or some equivalent routine to parse the input string
into a DOUBLEST, which is then stored within a OP_DOUBLE expression
node. When evaluating the expression, the OP_DOUBLE is finally
converted into a value in target format.

On the other hand, *decimal* floating-point literals are parsed
directly into target format and stored that way in a OP_DECFLOAT
expression node. In order to eliminate the DOUBLEST, this patch
therefore unifies the handling of binary and decimal floating-
point literals and stores them both in target format within a
new OP_FLOAT expression node, replacing both OP_DOUBLE and
OP_DECFLOAT.

In order to store literals in target format, the parse_float
routine needs to know the type of the literal. All parsers
therefore need to be changed to determine the appropriate type
(e.g. by detecting suffixes) *before* calling parse_float,
instead of after it as today. However, this change is mostly
straightforward -- again, this is already done for decimal FP
today.

The core of the literal parsing is moved into a new routine
floatformat_from_string, mirroring floatformat_to_string.
The parse_float routine now calls either floatformat_from_string
or decimal_from_sting, allowing it to handle any type of FP
literal.

All language parsers need to be updated. Some notes on
specific changes to the various languages:

- C: Decimal FP is now handled in parse_float, and no longer
  needs to be handled specially.

- D: Straightforward.

- Fortran: Still used a hard-coded "atof", also replaced by
  parse_float now. Continues to always use builtin_real_s8
  as the type of literal, even though this is probably wrong.

- Go: This used to handle "f" and "l" suffixes, even though
  the Go language actually doesn't support those. I kept this
  support for now -- maybe revisit later. Note the the GDB
  test suite for some reason actually *verifies* that GDB supports
  those unsupported suffixes ...

- Pascal: Likewise -- this handles suffixes that are not
  supported in the language standard.

- Modula-2: Like Fortran, used to use "atof".

- Rust: Mostly straightforward, except for a unit-testing hitch.
  The code use to set a special "unit_testing" flag which would
  cause "rust_type" to always return NULL. This makes it not
  possible to encode a literal into target format (which type?).
  The reason for this flag appears to have been that during
  unit testing, there is no "rust_parser" context set up, which
  means no "gdbarch" is available to use its types. To fix this,
  I removed the unit_testing flag, and instead simply just set up
  a dummy rust_parser context during unit testing.

- Ada: This used to check sizeof (DOUBLEST) to determine which
  type to use for floating-point literal. This seems questionable
  to begin with (since DOUBLEST is quite unrelated to target formats),
  and in any case we need to get rid of DOUBLEST. I'm now simply
  always using the largest type (builtin_long_double).

1526853e34 Add selftests run filtering
With the growing number of selftests, I think it would be useful to be
able to run only a subset of the tests. This patch associates a name to
each registered selftest. It then allows doing something like:

  (gdb) maintenance selftest aarch64
  Running self-tests.
  Running selftest aarch64-analyze-prologue.
  Running selftest aarch64-process-record.
  Ran 2 unit tests, 0 failed

or with gdbserver:

  ./gdbserver --selftest=aarch64

In both cases, only the tests that contain "aarch64" in their name are
ran. To help validate that the tests you want to run were actually ran,
it also prints a message with the test name before running each test.

Right now, all the arch-dependent tests are registered as a single test
of the selftests. To be able to filter those too, I made them
"first-class citizen" selftests. The selftest type is an interface,
with different implementations for "simple selftests" and "arch
selftests". The run_tests function simply iterates on that an invokes
operator() on each test.

I changed the tests data structure from a vector to a map, because

  - it allows iterating in a stable (alphabetical) order
  - it allows to easily verify if a test with a given name has been
    registered, to avoid duplicates

There's also a new command "maintenance info selftests" that lists the
registered selftests.

f1735a53a6 Rename _const functions to use overloading instead
This renames a few functions -- skip_spaces_const,
skip_to_space_const, get_number_const, extract_arg_const -- to drop
the "_const" suffix and instead rely on overloading.

This makes future const fixes simpler by reducing the number of lines
that must be changed. I think it is also not any less clear, as all
these functions have the same interface as their non-const versions by
design. Furthermore there's an example of using an overload in-tree
already, namely check_for_argument.

This patch was largely created using some perl one-liners; then a few
fixes were applied by hand.

3232fabd2d Remove cleanups from Rust parser
This removes the few remaining cleanups in the Rust language code.
The main difficulty here was that the earlier code allocated VEC heads
on an obstack. The new code instead introduces an object that
allocates and maintains the storage for whatever vectors are needed
during the parse.

Regression tested on the buildbot.

ChangeLog
2017-08-05  Tom Tromey  <tom@tromey.com>

8880f2a9cb Handle sizeof(type) in Rust
PR rust/21764 notes that "sizeof" does not work correctly for all types
in Rust. The bug turns out to be an error in the conversion of the AST
to gdb expressions. This patch fixes the bug and also avoids generating
incorrect expressions in another case.

Tested on the buildbot. I'm checking this in.

2017-07-14  Tom Tromey  <tom@tromey.com>

	PR rust/21764:
	* rust-exp.y (convert_ast_to_expression): Add "want_type"
	parameter.
	<UNOP_SIZEOF>: Split into separate case.
	<UNOP_VAR_VALUE>: Handle want_type. Add error case.

2017-07-14  Tom Tromey  <tom@tromey.com>

	PR rust/21764:
	* gdb.rust/simple.exp: Add tests.
